‘Large Families’ Star Ambre Dol Sparks Debate with Instagram Rant on Household Task Division
Paris, France – Ambre Dol, known for her appearances on the French reality TV show Large Families: Life in XXL, ignited a social media discussion this Thursday, September 11, 2025, with a series of Instagram stories criticizing the expectation that women should shoulder the majority of household chores, even when both partners work or contribute financially.
Dol, who first appeared on the show in 2020 with her then-husband alexandre and their five children, has been navigating a public separation marked by accusations of domestic violence. While the couple is not yet officially divorced – a process stalled by a recent legal challenge – Dol has begun rebuilding her life with a new partner. It’s against this backdrop that she addressed the issue of equitable task sharing.
The debate was sparked after an exchange with her dentist, who lamented that his wife didn’t have dinner prepared upon his return home. Dol responded with a pointed message: “Guys, it’s not as you pay a restaurant from time to time that you can’t, getting back, cooking too!” She further argued, “Nor is it on the pretext that you are repairing a coffee machine every five years, that it amputates you with the food chore.” Dol emphasized the daily commitment involved in grocery shopping and meal readiness, stating, “The races, the meal preparation is every day!“
Dol then directly addressed partners whose spouses work or care for children. “If your half does not work, and is childless, ok. But if she has the children to manage… You must not forget that all day, she did not stop too! And ditto when your wife works. I do not see why,you can settle down and set foot under the table on the pretext that you pay the restaurants,” she wrote, labeling her post a “Thursday morning rant!”
The comments reflect a broader conversation around gender roles and domestic labor, issues frequently debated in France and internationally. Dol’s outspokenness on the topic adds another layer to her public persona, already shaped by her experiences with separation and allegations of abuse.
