Anna, Amalia, Ariana? Alexa is meticulous in terms of name and pronunciation
A few years ago, a YouTube video caused a sensation in which an allegedly reinvented one Alexa Speaker Edition for seniors was presented. The special: No matter what name the forgetful seniors in the video addressed their device, Alexa responded immediately.
Unfortunately, this has not yet been the case in reality. Users currently only have the option to change the standard activation word “Alexa” via app to “Computer”, “Echo” or “Amazon”.
Also problematic: dialects that are very different from High German still cause problems for the language assistant’s understanding. In addition, it is unable to respond to its users in their familiar dialect.
Memo or voice memos are unknown territory for Alexa
Amazon’s voice assistant helps its users – if necessary – by saving to-do lists, shopping lists or appointments. These can then be called up by voice command or in the Alexa app. However, we have not yet been able to create a voice memo for our own use. After all, every user can leave on the echo of other messages.
Many household appliances need to be prepared for Alexa use
Alexa literally does not master handles. Filling the washing machine with dirty clothes or placing a cup under the coffee machine is something that every user currently has to do himself.
But Alexa can control many devices at the same time and e.g. the Robot vacuum cleaner together with the Robotic lawnmowers activate so that the whole home is perfectly cared for when its owners come home.

In an emergency, Alexa gives tips, but does not call the ambulance
Echo speaker owners can easily talk to each other by saying “Alexa, call [….] who has an Alexa device with a display such as B. Echo show, for whom there is even the possibility of making video calls via Amazon’s voice assistant.
However, emergency numbers cannot be dialed via Alexa. If the user e.g. confronted with the hint that he is in pain, Alexa calls the official emergency number 112 and suggests contacting neighbors or relatives as first aiders. As Home emergency call Alexa is therefore not suitable.
