Amazon: strikes at six locations in Germany! Work has been dormant since the night shift – economy

Verdi and hundreds of Amazon employees are luring the shipping giant out of the reserve this time?

With the start of the night shift on Monday, the employees of the online retailer stopped working at several locations. Strikes had started in Bad Hersfeld and Koblenz, in Rheinberg and Werne as well as in Leipzig, the union announced on Monday.

The strikes are initially scheduled until Tuesday. No information was initially available on the participation. According to Verdi, around 400 to 450 employees have resigned their work in the logistics center in Rheinberg. In Leipzig, the union expects around 400 to 500 strikers on Monday. In other locations, it is not yet possible to predict how many Amazon employees will participate, it was said in the morning.

What is the union and its employees about?

The union calls for the conclusion of a collective agreement to ensure the health and safety of workers. In addition, Verdi is demanding the recognition of regional collective agreements for retailers and mail order companies in the collective dispute with the online retailer that has been going on for over seven years.

Amazon has been on strike in Germany since May 2013 – without tangible results in the deadlock.

The group had shown itself calmly in previous campaigns and argued that the employees carry out activities in the logistics sector and not in the retail sector. They also offer payment at the upper end of what is customary in logistics and are a fair and responsible employer even without a collective agreement. Nationwide, Amazon has 13 logistics locations with around 13,000 permanent employees.
