They were found in northern Peru, on the border with Colombia, by local natives, reports the BBC relayed by BFMTV Tuesday January 28, after 34 days of wandering.
The authorities were without news of the woman and her children. The group got lost near the Putumayo River, in a border region between Colombia and Peru, where they had come to visit relatives.
Seeds, plants and berries on the menu
The mother told of her ordeal. “When we couldn’t drink every 30 minutes, we would pass out, she explained to the BBC. We had to stop all the time and the girls couldn’t walk anymore. “
The woman and her three children, aged 10, 12 and 14, had in fact more than a frugal diet: the group had to eat seeds, plants and berries found in the jungle.
After 34 days, they happily encountered members of the Secoya indigenous group near the village of Yubito.
They warned the Peruvian navy, which dispatched a hovercraft to bring the surviving family to Colombia. Suffering from malnutrition, dehydration and covered with bites, the mother and her three children were hospitalized.
