Amazon lifts ban on non-essential products

Good news for Amazon merchants and customers this week. As the Wall Street Journal reports, Amazon will resume shipping on non-essential items later this week. The news comes in the wake of recent reports that the online retail giant is suspending its Amazon Shipping service dedicated to third-party deliveries.

“The products will be limited in quantity to allow us to continue to prioritize products and protect employees, while ensuring that most sales partners can ship goods to our facilities.” an Amazon spokesperson said in a WSJ statement.

Although third-party vendors may sell non-essential products on Amazon, the Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) logistics option was suspended. This shipping service allows merchants to store their products in one of Amazon’s warehouses and Amazon would deliver their products to customers and receive a commission per sale.

Unlike merchants who use direct delivery methods, Amazon’s third-party sellers own Amazon goods stored in its warehouses. This lifting of the ban is certainly good news for third-party merchants who rely heavily on Amazon warehouses for storage.

Amazon customers, even Prime subscribers who have been waiting weeks for orders, can also breathe a sigh of relief. Not only are shipping restrictions lifted, the Jeff Bezos-owned company has announced that it will hire an additional 175,000 workers to speed up deliveries by Prime Day 2020.
