Amazon introduces its first electric delivery van

Amazon unveiled his first electric delivery vehicle made in collaboration with Rivian that the company has invested in in the past. This presentation comes in just one year from the announcement of The Climate Pledge under which Jeff Bezos’ company promised to achievezero CO2 emissions target by 2040. As part of this plan, Amazon will deploy 10,000 custom electric vehicles to make deliveries to customers around the world as early as 2022, up to 100,000 by 2030.

This new zero-emission vehicle announced by the company is just one of three that Amazon has invested in and which will be customized in collaboration with Rivian. Ross Rachey, Amazon’s World Fleet and Product Director, said about this debut:

We hope this electric vehicle will help create a sense of urgency in the industry and inspire operators to think big by adopting sustainable technologies and solutions.

However, it is not just a simple electric van as it was during its design both safety and functionality have been given priority. For this reason, it is characterized by advanced features in terms of safety, driving and design. For example, Amazon’s electric van features state-of-the-art sensors, a set of driver assistance features and a large windshield to maximize visibility for the driver.

But that’s not all because the vehicle can also count on a system of cameras positioned outside and connected to a digital display inside the passenger compartment that allows the driver to have an external view of 360 degrees. Since we are talking about an Amazon medium can not miss the integration with Alexa which allows access with the aid of voice commands to information regarding the route to be traveled and the weather situation.

Electric vans developed by Rivian they also have a reinforced door on the driver’s side for greater protection, ample space for the driver, a large system of headlights and lights positioned in the rear of the vehicle to signal braking and a three-storey shelving with a watertight door that can be opened and closed easily to ensure greater safety while driving.

And what about the engine, range and battery? Unfortunately, these technical details were not disclosed by the American company which preferred to focus on showing the other features of this vehicle.
