Amazon introduces Fire TV Stick with HDR support and cheaper Stick Lite – Image and sound – News

Amazon has introduced two new Fire Sticks, both of which have support for HDR. The Fire TV Stick Lite is a cheaper version of the Fire TV Stick and includes a smaller remote control than the regular Fire TV Stick.

The new Fire TV Stick has according to Amazon an improved quad-core processor with a clock speed of 1.7GHz and 8GB storage. The company claims this processor is 50 percent more powerful than the previous generation Fire TV Stick. With this new media player it should be possible to stream at 1080p at 60fps. The Fire TV Stick has two antennas and supports 5GHz networks, which should provide a more stable connection. The new Stick can also handle Dolby Atmos.

The Fire TV Stick has the same remote control as the Fire TV Stick 4K, which Amazon calls the Alexa Voice Remote. This remote control can handle televisions, sound bars and receivers, among other things. Amazon claims the Fire TV Stick offers improved performance over the previous, second-generation TV Stick, while energy consumption is 50 percent less.

In addition to the Fire TV Stick, Amazon is introducing a Fire TV Stick Lite. This has the same processor as the Fire TV Stick and also supports HDR, 1080p and 60fps. However, the Lite variant does not support Dolby Atmos Audio, and the remote control does not work with TVs or audio devices, but only with the Fire TV Stick Lite. That remote does support Alexa.

Both Sticks will be delivered to selected countries from next week. Belgium and the Netherlands are not covered, it is not known whether the Sticks will come this way at a later time. The Fire TV Stick Lite has a suggested retail price of 31 euros including VAT, the Fire TV Stick costs 42 euros.

Amazon also announced that it has updated the Fire TV environment. The software will soon have to work more intuitively and more easily. Fire TV must also be more adjustable. For example, the new Find function should make it easier to search for films and TV series, where filters such as genres and categories can be set. Examples of categories are free series or live television. Alexa should also get improvements with additional voice functions. Video calling should also be possible with the Fire TV Cube and a Logitech webcam. Amazon will be bringing the new Fire TV software to customers later this year.
