Amazon adds 4 new solar energy projects in Spain

Amazon has added four new projects of solar energy on Spain, on Extremadura, Castilla-La Mancha and the Community of Madrid. These initiatives are part of the 18 new wind and solar energy projects that will also be carried out in Italy, the UK, Germany, Finland and the US, which will add a renewable capacity of 5.6 gigawatts (GW) to the grid and contribute to reaching the company’s goal of supplying 100% of its activities with renewable energy by 2025, five years before your initial commitment in 2030.

In Spain, one of the parks will be located in Castilla-La Mancha, two in Extremadura and another in the Community of Madrid. On the whole will add more than 630 megawatts (MW) of capacity to the network, which will be added to that of the five solar plants that the company already has in Spain, located in Andalusia, Extremadura, Aragón and Castilla – La Mancha. With the start-up of these new photovoltaic projects, Amazon will exceed 1.15 GW of renewable capacity in Spain, whose total installed power is around 60 GW.

274 projects

In total, there are already 274 wind and solar projects that Amazon has around the world, with a total renewable energy production capacity of more than 12 GW and 33,700 gigawatt hours (GWh). When all are fully operational they will provide renewable energy to Amazon corporate offices, fulfillment centers, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centers.

These projects will also help Amazon fulfill its commitment to produce the renewable energy equivalent of the electricity used by its Echo devices. The amount of renewable energy produced by these projects avoid the equivalent of the annual emissions of nearly 3 million cars in the US each year, which is estimated at approximately 13.7 million metric tons.

After this latest announcement, Amazon reaffirms itself as the world’s largest corporate buyer of renewable energy, with 274 projects worldwide including 105 commercial-scale wind and solar and 169 solar roofs in Amazon facilities and stores throughout the world.
