Rotenburg / Zeven – Now it’s official: The football season 2019/2020 will be finally canceled! The vast majority of the delegates, exactly 91.1 percent, decided on the virtual organized extraordinary association day of the Lower Saxony Football Association (NFV) on Saturday morning for the application of the board, so that there are only promoters after the quotient calculation, but no relegations. This means that Rotenburger SV is returning to the Oberliga after five years as the master of the Landesliga, while VfL Visselhövede has finally secured the title in the district league and is back in the district league after four years of abstinence.
The association day didn’t even need the length of a football game to make the decision – after 82 minutes everything was fixed. “There is a catch – now there is finally clarity and the seasons can be concluded,” also breathed Uwe Schradick, the chairman of the Rotenburg soccer circle, and endorsed the decision: “That is the greatest common denominator, which is why I now find it right. ”Of the 324 eligible delegates, 291 voted. There were only 23 votes against. The district of Rotenburg provided seven voters – in addition to Schradick, the board members Günter Sievers, Regina Thurisch, Detlef Reich and Mats Bauer as well as the club representatives Thomas Holzkamm (TV Sottrum) and David Kunsch (MTV Wilstedt). While the Presidium and Directors of the NFV took a seat in the Peppermint Pavilion of the Hanover Expo Park, the Rotenburgers met with their laptops in the Volksbank in Zeven and used the Webex platform for the video conference. The votes were cast via the online voting tool Teambits, as the association announced. “Huge respect for the boys and girls from NFV, how they implemented the virtual association day. That was almost perfect, ”said Schradick.
The first application for cancellation of the season, made by FC Dynamo Lüneburg, was voted down by almost 95 percent. The delegates followed the suggestion of the association’s top. There were no majorities for all supplementary applications – not even that of the regional league team MTV Treubund Lüneburg, who had been ahead of Rotenburger SV after the back series and therefore wanted the “autumn champions” to be promoted.

The standings from March 12, the day of the season break, will be counted. In addition to the champions, only the teams from the leagues in which there are relegation places are promoted. In addition to VfL Visselhövede, MTSV Selsingen in the Rotenburg district also made the leap into the district league as “vice”. The second place in the 1st district class south, Veeser FC, has meanwhile waived its right of promotion. The decision applies to all senior league and for the A to C youth area. The squadrons must have reached their target strength again by the 2023/2024 season at the latest.
However, it is not yet certain when the new season will begin. “This is coffee grounds reading,” Schradick said reluctantly. NFV President Günter Distelrath again emphasized in a press release from the association: “I am really in good spirits that the months of uncertainty will soon end and that we can play football not only in training but also under competitive conditions.” He spoke in favor of one new assessment of the situation: “Against the background of falling infection numbers and new scientific knowledge, the situation should now be re-examined for amateur and youth football as well as recreational sports as a whole. Studies indicate that, unlike boxing or wrestling, for example, football is not a contact sport in the sense of long-lasting, static whole-body contact with a high risk of infection. Rather, soccer is a sport with contact over a few seconds with a small contact area. Against this background, it seems justifiable to completely remove the restrictions on playing football outdoors. ”In an interview published in the Bremervörder Zeitung before the association day, he cited late summer or early autumn as the start of a season.
As a final proposal, an authorization application was submitted, which had been submitted by the NFV board and which required a three-quarters majority – with 85.5 percent approval. This authorizes the NFV board to make any necessary changes to the statutes and regulations in connection with or on the occasion of the Covid 19 pandemic. An association day no longer has to be convened for this.
