Alza accepts an order every second. E-shops announce billions in sales

“In the first day, we achieved a turnover of more than 200 million crowns, the number of orders climbed to almost one hundred thousand,” wrote Petr Bena, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alza.cz, in a report to business partners.

The e-shop administrators processed at least one order per second all day, and ten of them came during peak hours. Alza expects to sell goods worth billions of crowns by the end of November.

“In practice, this means that we expect a turnover of more than ten billion crowns without tax by the end of the year. This is more than any Czech e-shop implemented for the whole of last year. That is why we are also preparing the December sales event Vánoční TRHáky, “added Bena.

This year’s pandemic shift of customers to online purchases also supported the sales of other major e-shops. “Government measures add to the fact that Christmas shopping will be largely moved online this year. The current numbers correspond to this. In recent weeks, we have grown by more than seventy percent year-on-year in sales, in the last even by ninety percent, “summed up Tomáš Pilský, sales director of the internet retailer CZC.cz, number two on the domestic market.

Electronics predominates in sales and there is still interest in technology enabling distance learning, home office or entertainment, such as laptops, monitors or game consoles. “The new PlayStation 5 game consoles as well as the Xbox Series X were completely sold out as part of pre-orders,” added Pilský.

Even on the growing turnover of Mall.cz, another of the large online e-shops, it is clear that people prefer shopping from home. “Now it can be seen, for example, in older customers, who have been used to choosing gifts more in shopping malls. Sales are forty percent higher year-on-year and we expect that by the end of the year due to the epidemiological situation and the Christmas season, they will continue to grow, “said Jakub Střeštík, Sales Director of MALL Group.

Banks also assume that pre-Christmas purchases will take place mainly online. According to a survey by Equa bank, almost ninety percent of Czechs over the age of 18 are going to buy Christmas presents in e-shops. They intend to spend an average of 6,300 crowns on gifts for their loved ones.
