To quote Asia One (21/6) a noodle shop This legendary restaurant in the Maxwell Food Center area, Singapore, has suddenly closed its outlets without prior announcement. This noodle shop which is almost 80 years old is famous as a seller of street noodles with cheap prices.

Since a few years ago until the last day of its closing, the noodles sold here are only priced at 1 Singapore Dollar or the equivalent of Rp. 10 thousand. The shop whose real name is Zhong Guo Jie Re Shi is more popular with the name China Street Rickshaw Noodles.

The closure of this shop was announced by a netizen through a Facebook account named Larry Lai to the Can Eat! Hawker Food. The upload contains a photo of a closed shop with the name of the shop written on it which has also been deleted.

“This store is now gone,” Larry Lai wrote in a caption to his uploaded photo.

Larry Lai’s upload immediately made street food connoisseurs noisy, especially those who were loyal customers from China Street Rickshaw Noodles. Larry even went to the shop owner and asked him why he closed the legendary noodle shop.

According to information shared by Larry, a shop owner named Soh Pho Tee admitted that he had given up running a culinary business that had been operating for 8 decades. Noodle shop This place gets a lot of interest because it is able to offer cheap food prices in the middle of the central business district.

During operation, this shop serves sua and bee hon noodles which are really inexpensive. Even for the large portion, it is only priced at 1.5 Singapore Dollars which is equivalent to Rp. 15 thousand.

In addition to noodles and vermicelli, China Street Rickshaw Noodles is also famous for its snack choices such as nuggets, luncheon meat to its ngohiong which is a mainstay. When met by Larry, Pho Tee even told a little about his shop’s journey.

The shop was first operated by Pho Tee’s mother in 1943 to support Pho Tee and his five other siblings. Long story short, this shop was later handed down to Pho Tee who is now 70 years old. Until finally Pho Tee gave up after food prices soared and several factors made it difficult to survive.
