Officially, the first corona infection in the Netherlands was only diagnosed on February 27. However, new figures from RIVM show that the virus was probably already in the Netherlands at the end of January and perhaps even earlier.
Before February 27, at least 154 people were already walking around with corona-related complaints. It was not until much later that Covid-19 was diagnosed with them. RTL Nieuws demonstrates this after analyzing the data from RIVM. It states on which day the people tested positive had their first complaints.
Two people already had complaints on January 1 and 20, but they are unlikely to have been infected by then. However, it is quite possible that there were infections from the end of January, beginning of February, because then the number of sick people increased almost daily. Before Carnival started on February 23, there were already 63 people with complaints. Of these, 20 came from North Brabant.
According to epidemiologist Arnold Bosman, much more should have been tested much earlier. “With current knowledge, it appears that the definition used was far too strict. The conditions for a test were so tight that there was a good chance that you would miss people. ”
