Daniel Yule (26) from Valais has never met the Graubünden dumeng Giovanoli (79). But he has heard of him many times. More often than he liked at times. «In the past few years, I have been reminded repeatedly that since Giovanoli in 1968 no Swiss has won again. Then I realized that it was high time to change this. »
–
Now the 26-year-old has actually ended this jet-black Swiss series on the Ganslern slope with his third win of the season in a glorious manner. Yule, who already won the classics of Adelboden and Madonna di Campiglio this month, is ahead of Austria’s Marco Schwarz in the final accounts. “There is nothing bigger than these golden fawn chamois,” says Yule overjoyed.

“I need Yule’s mobile number”
In this historic moment at home in Sils Maria, 79-year-old Giovanoli looks forward to watching TV like a small child: «Daniel did it sensationally. Now I need Yule’s mobile number so that I can congratulate him personally. »BLICK forwards the desired number to Giovanoli. “As soon as the hype has subsided, I’ll call Daniel.”
–
And after the season, the old and the new Swiss Kitz Champion meet for the first time. Giovanoli wants to approach Yule with his racing bike. «I announced a few years ago that I would visit the next Swiss slalom winner from Kitzbühel by bike. I want to redeem that next summer. »
–
Giovanoli, with his 80 leagues, also covers about 2000 kilometers a year on his racer. There are 400 kilometers between his place of residence in the Engadine and Yule’s residence in Lower Valais alone. “Maybe I’ll redeem my bike bet if Yule trains in Graubünden,” he says with a smile.
–
Yule also follows Giovanoli’s tracks in the World Cup
When he thinks back of his great victory, Giovanoli not only sees a big difference in terms of material compared to today: «Yule gets 100,000 euros for his victory, I only got a trophy at the time. You couldn’t make money in my time as a racing driver. I was happy that the association paid for travel and hotels, so I got to know the world thanks to skiing. »
–
Yule, on the other hand, could win and cash a lot more this winter. In the overall slalom standings, he is only 17 points behind Henrik Kristoffersen. Once you can guess who has won the overall slalom ranking so far as the only Swiss. Dumeng Giovanoli – in the 1967/68 season.
