Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) has updated the roadmap for Star Citizens Alpha Patch 4.0. There is various shifts. So fans have to wait for the completion of the planet Crusader and its landing zone Orison. These will only appear at the earliest with Alpha 4.2, which is currently planned for the fourth quarter of 2020. But not only the completion of the gas giant is being postponed. Many supporters are angry about moving the server to client rework. This should improve communication between players and the game servers. Currently, high latencies and slow animation are still a primary problem in space simulation.
Job market
The development team has given several reasons for the delays. The focus on the completion of the Grimhex space station and other locations is one. In addition, the completion of the new landing zone New Babbage has already been delayed, which has subsequent consequences. The team also needed some time to switch to homework due to the spread of Covid-19.
Star Citizen community is upset
The community is in the discussion Noticeably outraged at this announcement despite the reasons. “The multitude of things that are being moved or removed entirely – with no apparent new gameplay changes – is very worrying”says a member. “Where are all the gameplay points that have disappeared from the roadmap?”, asks another supporter. Many think that delaying new gameplay mechanics and thus a differentiated gaming experience is wrong. “Take my wallet as tightly closed until I get any encouraging news about the development of the persistent universe”says a user.
The Alpha 4.0 is the next major version of Star Citizen after the current Alpha 3.9 is currently in the test phase. Instead of Crusader and the improved client-server communication, further in-game shops on New Babbage, elevator consoles and the improved landing zone from Grimhex are being implemented. A new target acquisition system is also in the works. Alpha 4.0 is planned for the second quarter of 2020.
