Almere City is in any case the leader in the Kitchen Champion Division until Monday after a 1-4 victory over Young Ajax. Thomas van Bommel, the son of Mark van Bommel, gave MVV Maastricht a 1-1 draw with his first goal in professional football against Helmond Sport.
Within three minutes it was already 0-2 at De Toekomst, thanks to an own goal from Neraysho Kasanwirjo and a striking header from Almere striker Thomas Verheydt.
Halfway through the first half, the Dane Elias Sørensen signed for 0-3 and his fellow countryman Frederik Helstrup made 0-4 in the second half. Kenneth Taylor saved the honor for Ajax’s talents with a penalty kick.
The team of trainer Ole Tobiasen is at the top with 24 points from ten duels. SC Cambuur has two points less and can come alongside if it beats Young PSV in Eindhoven on Monday.
Van Bommel saves point for MVV
In the right row of the Kitchen Champion Division, Helmond Sport drew 1-1 against MVV Maastricht. Jelle Goselink opened the score in the SolarUnie Stadium shortly after the break from 11 meters.
In injury time, Thomas van Bommel saved a point for the Limburgers. Mark van Bommel’s son shot hard and high in a messy situation.
Eighteen-year-old Van Bommel had come in five minutes before the end. He only played his third game in professional football and made his first goal. Mark van Bommel also made his first goal in professional football against Helmond Sport 26 years ago.
