Allied soldiers take part in ‘Urban Combat’ military exercise

From June 15 to 19 Ventspils Military exercises “Urban Combat” will take place in Irbene to improve the combat capabilities of Latvian and Allied soldiers and cooperation in the performance of tasks in the urban environment, informs Senior Lieutenant Jurģis Baumanis, Press Officer of the Information Operations Division of the Land Forces Mechanized Infantry Brigade Headquarters.

During the military exercise “Urban Combat” NATO soldiers of the expanded presence in Latvia battle group will improve their fighting skills for battle in the populated area, including movement in the urban environment, and will perform defense maneuvers.

The aim of the training is to improve the efficiency of the battle group and its integration into the Mechanized Infantry Brigade of the Land Forces.

Baumanis informs that during the training the traffic on public roads will not be restricted.

National armed forces calls on the public to be sympathetic to ongoing training and short-term noise.

Training ammunition and combat simulations will be used during the training, which will make noise but do not endanger human health and life. However, when unknown objects are found in the study places, it is forbidden to touch or move them. The areas will be cleaned up after the training.

The multinational battle group in Latvia is led by Canada, and consists of more than 1,500 soldiers from Albania, Czech Republic, Italian, Iceland, Canadian, Montenegro, Polish, Slovak, Slovenian a Spanish, who performs service duties in Latvia on a rotating basis, participating in exercises together with the National Armed Forces, thus improving compatibility with regional allies in order to be able to respond to the challenges of the security environment.
