All WhatsApp users are urged to change settings TODAY to lock your texts – don’t leave them exposed

IF YOU are worried about people snooping on your WhatsApp chats, there is an easy way to protect them from prying eyes.

By diving into the app settings, you can lock your messages behind facial recognition or fingerprint scanning on iPhone.

This means your chats are protected from prying eyes even when your iPhone is unlocked.

To set this up, you need to head to your WhatsApp settings by tapping on the cog icon at the bottom of your screen.

Faucet Account > Privacy > Screen lock. From there, you can enable Touch ID or Face ID.

You will also be able to choose the minimum time you want to spend before your biometric ID is required again.

Now, every time you go to open WhatsApp, you will be asked for your fingerprints or face scan in order to access your chats.

This means that if you give your phone to someone, you can be sure that they won’t spy on your conversations on the sly.

However, it is still possible to quickly read and respond to messages in your device’s notification window, so the tool is not foolproof.

To really lock down your iPhone, you can always turn off all message previews in your device settings.

Whether you have the option to lock your chats behind Face ID or Touch ID will depend on the model of iPhone you’re using.

Face ID is available on all models after 2017’s iPhone X, while those before it use Touch ID.

WhatsApp has made a series of changes in recent months intended to strengthen user privacy.

The US chat app recently rolled out an update that prevents people who aren’t in your contacts from seeing your “last seen” status.

“Last Seen” is the timestamp that appears on your WhatsApp profile and chats to indicate when you last opened the app.

It’s possible to hide it in your WhatsApp settings, but until now it’s been visible to everyone by default.

After the update, only contacts and those you’ve chatted with will see your status, keeping the last time you used the app secret from all but your contacts.

And last year, WhatsApp announced it was expanding its disappearing messages feature that ensures messages disappear after a set period of time.

Users can now set texts to self-destruct after 24 hours, seven days, or 90 days. You can also now set all your messages to disappear by default.
