All together again. Jervi’s family, friends and associates meet at the Pärnu Music Festival / Diena

The Pärnu Music Festival will be held for the twelfth time. This summer, all members of the Jervi family will meet again in their favorite Estonian resort town – Neme Jervi will return to the festival after a three-year absence. On July 13, he will conduct the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra in the opening concert of the festival in the Pärnu concert hall. It will feature music by Carl Stamic, Christoph Willibald Gluck, Antonin Dvořák and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

As always, the concerts in Pärnu will be conducted by the sons of Nēme Jervi – Pāvo and Kristjans Jervi. On July 16, 17, 21 and 22, Pāvo Jervi will stand at the console in four concerts of the Estonian Festival Orchestra (in this collective performance Pāvo Jervi carefully selected musicians from European orchestras and the best Estonian instrumentalists), while on July 15 Kristjans Jervi will conduct the self-created Baltic maritime philharmonic orchestra in the program Nordic Amazoniawhich will be dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the American composer Philip Glass.

“At this time, when we are all aware of how fragile independence is, it seems more important than ever to return to Pärnu with family and friends and perform to show solidarity with the Ukrainian people,” emphasizes festival initiator Paavo Jervi. Among the guest soloists will be his friends and associates. On July 16, the German horn player Stefan Dohr will play the Second Horn Concerto by Richard Strauss together with the Estonian Festival Orchestra and Paavo Jervi, on July 17 the American violinist Joshua Bell will interpret Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto. For the first time in Pärnu, British pianist and organist Wayne Marshall will play George Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F major at the end of the festival on July 22.

One of the most important initiatives of the festival are the master classes of the Jervi Conducting Academy, which this year will be led by Nēme, Pāvo and Kristjans Jervi together with pedagogue Leonidas Grin. The future conductors will stand at the console of the Baltic Sea Philharmonic Orchestra and the Yervi Academy Youth Symphony Orchestra (the young conductors and their teachers can be heard on July 12 in Tallinn, as well as on July 14 and 20 in Pärnu).

Special attention at the festival is devoted to Estonian music and musicians – on July 20, the world premiere of the Triple Concerto for two flutes and bassoon by composer Mari Vihmandas will take place. One of the soloists will be flautist Mārika Jervi, daughter of Nēme Jervi (on July 8, together with the ensemble of eighteen flutes she founded After Dark Marika Jervi will perform at the Great Guild in Riga). On July 21, violinist Trina Rubel and cellist Marcel Johannes Keats will be heard in the performance of the Johannes Brahms Double Concerto together with the Estonian Festival Orchestra. On July 18, the outstanding German violinist, long-time concertmaster of the Estonian Festival Orchestra, Florian Donderer, together with the young Estonian musicians Hans Kristians Āvik, Roberta Traxmans and Katarina Maria Keats, will play Antonio Vivaldi Seasons.

Listeners who cannot come to Pärnu will be able to enjoy the concerts remotely: they will be shown live for free on the festival website (parnumusicfestival.tv).

Tickets for concerts can be purchased online Ticket distribution.
