Explanation of the different “Jurassic Park” and “Jurassic World” trilogies

When Steven Spielberg brought the first “Jurassic Park” film based on Michael Crichton’s sci-fi novel “DinoPark” (1990) to the cinemas in 1993, nobody really knew where the journey would lead. After the gigantic success of the first work (1.046 billion USD box office worldwide!) and the availability of a second book (“Vergessene Welt”), it was decided to produce more dinosaur films.

During “Lost World: Jurassic Park” (1997) also worked well and was also financially successful (global gross: $618.6 million), the saga’s road to success was in 2001 with the third installment („Jurassic Park III“) already descending and the original Jurassic Park trilogy has come to an end.

Reviving the Dinofilm saga with Jurassic World

14 years later, the time was apparently ripe for a new start in the series: under the title „Jurassic World“ A new film was released in 2015 that continued the spiritual legacy of “Jurassic Park” and brought it into the present with state-of-the-art animation technology. Loosely based on the film quote “Bigger, louder and with more teeth”, the reboot (among others with audience favorite Chris Pratt in one of the leading roles) presented itself as an ingenious move that brought the film studio Universal Pictures over a billion USD at the box office and of course not one less successful sequel (“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom”) entailed.

With “Jurassic World: A New Era”, which will start in Austrian cinemas on June 8, 2022, will be the end of the dinosaurs again and the “Jurassic World” trilogy will end with a bang. Not much is known about the plot yet, but there will definitely be a clash between the stars of “Jurassic Park” and “Jurassic World”.

Dinosaurs wherever you look: two trilogies, one saga!
