All About Earthquakes: Here’s the Innards and Origins of Seismographs

There are two parts to a seismograph. Each has its own function. First, the Vertical Seismograph serves to record vertical earthquake vibrations.

At the bottom there is a needle whose tip touches the ribbon roll, which always rotates clockwise. Ribbon roll supports are fixed to the ground.

When it happens earthquake, the tape roll vibrates, while the mass is stationary and the clock is fixed. Produces streaks on the roll of the tape called a seismogram.

Origin Seismograph

The origin of seismographs dates back to 132 AD, by a scientist named Zhang Heng from China.

He was the first to find a seismograph to record the frequent earthquakes in the capital Luoyang during the Han dynasty in the early second century AD.
