Before she realized it, Van Uytvanck was indebted 0-4 after a double break. One rebreak and break further, she lost the 1st set. With 10 unforced errors and a substandard first storage percentage (45%), the 2nd set could only offer improvement.
Van Uytvanck also showed a different face: she started to play more aggressively and accurately and especially her serve turned a lot better. With 71 percent and a good first serve, she quickly ended 3-0.
14 winners did the rest, the first set point was the right one: 6-3. In the 3rd set, the best level of Van Uytvanck was no longer necessary. She played solid with 0 unforced errors, Peterson made the mistakes. With 10 out of 10 first serve points and 8 winners, the 6-1 was a fact.
For Van Uytvanck it is the 6th time on the grand slam gravel, in 2015 she made a name for herself as the quarter-finalist. Last year she immediately left. In the 2nd round, the winner of Donna Vekic (WTA-30) awaits against Irina Maria Bara (WTA-142).
