Diane Nguyen is one of the most important characters in the plot of BoJack Horseman, but now the actress who gave voice to the writer expressed her regret for having taken that role.
Through a post on your Instagram account Alison Brie, the actress who voiced Diane in all seasons of BoJack Horseman, she regretted having assumed the role of an American Vietnamese woman even though she was not.
“In hindsight, I wish I hadn’t voiced the character Diane Nguyen,” Brie wrote. “Now I understand that people of color should always express people of color.”
“We missed a great opportunity to represent the Vietnamese American community with precision and respect, and I am very sorry. I applaud everyone who strayed from their voice-over roles in the past few days. I learned a lot from them”, sentenced.
The last part of Brie’s statement concerns the decisions figures like Mike Henry, Jenny Slate, and Kristen Bell made regarding their respective characters in Family Guy, Big Mouth and Central Park.
