Alicante, the second city with the most expensive night taxi tour in Spain

Alicante is the second Spanish city with the most expensive night taxi tour in Spain, 10.38 euros, only behind Tarragona, 10.91 euros, according to a study by the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU).

Castellón is the most expensive city in terms of the cost of the kilometer traveled by taxi, with an average of 1.12 euros, when the Spanish average stands at 0.90 euros.

The rates that taxis charge their users vary up to 110 percent depending on the city in which their service is used, and taking a similar route.

The OCU has carried out a study with data from 54 cities (all the provincial capitals plus Ceuta, Melilla, Vigo and Gijón) and whose objective was to find out the price differences between two standard routes and see the evolution of rates in the last year.

For this, the OCU has selected two scenarios: one of a three-kilometer race with a five-minute wait on a weekday at 11 a.m. and another with the same distance but on a holiday and early in the morning.

The result of the first tour was an average price of the race of 6.17 euros.

However, the differences between cities were noticeable with a difference of 89 percent between the most expensive and the cheapest city.

The cheapest are Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (4.63 euros), Santa Cruz de Tenerife (4.66) and Ceuta (4.69) which are at the bottom of a list headed by Teruel (7.57 euros) , San Sebastián (7.90 euros) and especially Tarragona where the price of the race reached 8.76 euros.

In the case of the night tour, prices increased to an average of 8.07 euros.

In this case, the difference between cities reached 110 percent between the cheapest -Albacete (5.70 euros), Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (5.24) and Santa Cruz de Tenerife (5.21) – and the most expensive San Sebastián (9.94), Alicante (10.38) and Tarragona (10.91).

The OCU, as reported in its monthly magazine, has analyzed the different components of the taxi fare paid by a user.

Thus, he explains that, on the one hand, the flag drop is charged, a fixed cost that is paid to start the trip by taxi and whose national average is 1.82 euros.

In this case, the most expensive descent of the flag is that of Tarragona (3.92) and the cheapest that of Ceuta (0.90).

In many cities, adds the OCU, a minimum degree is charged with an average cost of 3.63 euros, a modality whose cost varies between 3 euros in Palma de Mallorca and 5.33 euros in San Sebastián.

In addition to the fixed concepts, the final price of the race is also influenced by the distance traveled and the waiting time.

The average kilometer traveled in Spain costs 0.90 euros and ranges from 0.60 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife to 1.12 in Castellón.

And to the distance traveled we must add the time in which the taxi is stopped, the average waiting time stands at 18.77 euros, a concept that varies between Las Palmas, the cheapest city (11.73) and Ourense , the most expensive, (23.36).

In addition, the OCU recalls that in many cities there are surcharges or supplements for certain services such as an extra cost in night or holiday rates, special destinations such as stations and airports or supplements for suitcases or animals.

Finally, according to the study, prices have hardly changed since 2015.
