Alibaba releases new server chip – wants to challenge Amazon and Microsoft

Alibaba has now launched a new server chip, the Yitian 710, reports CNBC. The chip will be used in the company’s new Panjui servers, which are made for artificial intelligence, apps and storage.

Neither the chip nor the servers will be sold directly to customers. Instead, it is the services that will be available to those who will be sold. When these will be available is currently unknown.

At present, cloud services account for about 8 percent of Alibaba’s revenue. Recently, the company has invested heavily in making the cloud business grow internationally and challenge giants in the field such as Amazon and Microsoft.

In 2019, Alibaba also released its first AI chip. The company is responsible for the design of the chip but not the manufacturing itself.
