Alfter: Alanus University awards scholarships: Financial support for talented students

(red) 31 students at the Alanus University for Art and Society in Alfter near Bonn can look forward to a Germany scholarship this year. Financed by donations from private sponsors and funds from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the state-recognized art college awards scholarships of 300 euros per month for the 2020/2021 academic year.

This year, the DAAD prize, endowed with 1,000 euros, goes to the Georgian Paata Kokaia, student of the Master’s program in Fine Arts. Kokaia was able to convince the jury with his great artistic ability as well as with his claim to raise political awareness with his art and to stimulate discussions. Painting professor Ulrika Eller-Rüter emphasizes: “Paata Kokaia is characterized by his distinctive and excellent artistic talent and his strong personality.” , is already shown in galleries. “His performance is above average,” says Eller-Rüter.

The DAAD award is used to honor an outstanding international student or doctoral candidate who has distinguished himself through both special academic achievements and remarkable social or intercultural commitment. The award is financed with funds from the Federal Foreign Office.

Since 2011, the Deutschlandstipendium has been promoting gifted students whose studies and career lead to special achievements and who do not receive any other gifted scholarship. In addition to social commitment, social, family or personal circumstances are also taken into account. The Alanus University has been participating in the Deutschlandstipendium annually since 2012. This year it is awarding 31 of them at a rate of 300 euros per month for the 2020/2021 academic year. This brings the total number of Germany Scholarships awarded since 2012 to 235.

Half of the funds for the Deutschlandstipendium are made up of federal funds and half of private donations. This year’s sponsors include, among others, the Fassbender Foundation, Meyer-Köring Attorneys at Law, the VR-Bank Bonn Foundation, supporting company for humanities education, dennree GmbH, Damus Donata eV, Alnatura Foundation, Elektrizitätswerke Schönau Vertriebs GmbH, Schöllgen Haustechnik GmbH, Alfter Economic Development Agency, and Kreissparkasse Cologne, Quarzwerke Witterschlick, Association of Free Waldorf Schools e. V., ibugi – Institute for Education and Social Innovation eV, Alanus Foundation, Friends of the Alanus University e. V. and private sponsors like the married couple Marie-Luise and Reinhard Augenreich from Alfter.
