Alexander Schmidt is the new coach

Nyour coach, old goal: get out of the regional league. The Offenbacher Kickers have been stuck in the fourth grade for nine years. The dream of the club from Bieber’s heights: promotion – first of all in the third division.

The next newcomer on the command bridge should realize it at the beginning of the coming season. He was introduced on Wednesday: Alexander Schmidt. The 53-year-old football teacher, most recently in the service of Dynamo Dresden, which was relegated to the second division, is the successor to Sreto Ristic. At Dynamo, Schmidt, who was born in Augsburg, was no longer able to turn the wheel until the end: after a home defeat against SV Darmstadt 98, he was released.

It’s all about first place

So now the OFC, where the head coaching position had become vacant because the club had separated from Ristic. Despite catching up in the meantime, Schmidt’s predecessors had not succeeded in realizing the dream of promotion. The Kickers ended up third in the Regionalliga Südwest.

The goal for Schmidt is clear: At the end of the coming season, there must be first place. The new Kickers managing director Matthias Georg said on Wednesday at Schmidt’s presentation on the Bieberer Berg: “We wanted a coach who stands for emotional football. Alexander brings a lot of ideas that convinced me from the start.” The Kickers manager quickly had the feeling that Schmidt was a coach “who was passionate about OFC”.

Schmidt emphasized that he made his decision for Offenbach out of conviction. “The Kickers are a traditional club. I also had one or the other option from the third division, but I wanted to go to Offenbach because I see the potential here,” said the new OFC coach.
