Alejandro Sanz radiography the lives marked by the covid | People

Thousands of video messages from Alejandro Sanz’s fans make up the artist’s latest and perhaps most personal work, who premieres this Friday a documentary that collects the different stories of the singer’s followers from all over the world during confinement. With over 1,200 hours of images from up to 38 countries, The world out summarizes a year that has shaken the lives of all and becomes the largest collaborative project of an artist in the Spanish language.

The world outside a co-production by Dada Films & Entertainment, Mow Manager and Universal Music Spain that premieres on Movistar + and goes on sale on DVD next Friday 18, is directed by Charlie Arnaiz, Alberto Ortega and Óscar García Blesa, who were surprised by the response massive that got the artist’s idea. “We had 4,500 correspondents around the world telling us about their reality. One that, although it was different, always coincided in something with the reality of another person on the other side of the planet “, acknowledge the directors, who faced Sanz’s proposal without a preconceived idea, as” a blank canvas. “

The artist made the appeal through social networks and they were in charge of creating a platform where they were receiving all the material. Some videos whose only mission was to share the day-to-day life that was lived in Havana, Japan, Patagonia, Thailand, New York, Spain … but without any formal indication of length, recording, script, nothing. Barely an hour long, the film collects the fear, euphoria, sadness and longing that was experienced during those months of confinement. It also served to bring out the most artistic part of many, since painting, dancing and music are key in the videos.

The pandemic, García Blesa acknowledges, “has been something new for everyone, both for famous people and for anonymous people”. Hence, the video does not lack personal moments of the artist himself. From the video calls with friends and familiar faces such as Juanes, Camila Cabello, Pablo Alborán or their colleagues from The voice even your most intimate conversations with your children. The oldest, Manuela, shows him the designs she was making herself in confinement; the middle man, Alexander, puts the last song he has composed; Dylan surprises him with his handling of the drums and his love of basketball and little Alma moves him almost to tears by playing a little verse on the piano. Like most citizens, the distance with his family is the worst thing for the artist, who spent several weeks 6,000 kilometers away from the two smallest. He said goodbye to them quickly during his time in Miami (Florida) before returning to Madrid from Colombia, where he was going to begin the concerts of his tour of Latin America. He arrived in the capital with his partner, the artist Rachel Valdés, also the protagonist of the documentary, and both settled in the house that the musician rented in the luxurious urbanization of La Finca.

In addition to working, this pandemic has allowed what is one of the most recognized Spanish artists in the world dedicate time to yourself and yours, to whom he is closer and closer. After the divorce agreement reached in September with Raquel Perera, she has moved with the two children of the ex-partner to Spain so that the children can be close to their father. Manuela, the fruit of her marriage to Jaydy Michel, has also moved from Mexico to Madrid with her mother, her partner and her little brother. The only one who continues with his life away is Alexander, 17, the son of Puerto Rican designer Valeria Rivera, who lives in Miami.

His home and his people have not been the only windows that Alejandro Sanz wanted to show the public. The singer has also revealed that covid-19 happened very early in the pandemic and they were complicated weeks. “I also passed the virus. I was gasping for air. I had uncomfortable symptoms and I fully understand its dangers. That’s why I only have gratitude for those who cured us ”, says the artist, who also acts as a common thread in the narration of the video.

Neither illness nor confinement diluted his efforts to entertain his followers and during the months of confinement he was one of the first artists to organize a concert in streaming, chat with his audience, send messages of encouragement on his social networks, compose new songs and create what may have been his most personal project. “Paradoxically, it has been the year that has been most active,” say those who know him. Now, nine months later and after looking at the inner world in an imposed way, Alejandro Sanz invites you to cast an illusioned look at the world outside.
