Dr. Alaa El-Sayed, head of the preventive medicine sector at the Ministry of Health, said that the World Health Organization announced that the Egyptian state was free of polio in 2006, and the last case of the disease was recorded in 2004.
Dr. Alaa El-Sayed added, through a telephone interview on the “TeN” satellite, Thursday, that the Ministry of Health carries out an annual campaign to vaccinate all Egyptian and non-Egyptian children, from one day to five years old.
He pointed out that the aim of this is to raise the immune status of children, and raise the immunity of children arriving in areas with polio.
The head of the preventive medicine sector stated that the campaign starts on February 28 and lasts for 5 days, in addition to the presence of medical teams in the health units, and also the presence of medical teams in front of the bus, metro stations and others, stressing the need to take vaccination for polio.
