Al-Ahly club is facing a confrontation with the Vanguards of the Army this evening, Sunday, in the framework of the matches of round 17 of the Egyptian Premier League.
Al-Ahly is contesting the top spot in the league standings with 39 points from 13 games, seven points behind the Arab contractors, its closest rival, who ran 16 matches.
As for the army’s pioneers, it ranks No. 14 in the league with 15 points, after 16 previous games, to be in the danger zone of the competition by the end of its first round.
Al-Ahly aspires to continue its positive results in the Egyptian league by achieving the 14th successive victory, before competing in the postponed Al-Masry meeting on February 14th.
Al-Ahly is looking to move away from the top of the league as far as possible before going into its game, allowing it to focus on confronting South Africa’s Sundowns in the quarter-finals of the African Champions League.
But the difficulty of facing the vanguard of the army lies in the fact that the military team wants to stay away from the landing centers, which is only one point away from the Tigris Valley clubs, the clearing Egypt and Tanta, and four points from the bottom-ranked Egypt Club.
Never before had the Pioneers of the Army achieved a victory over Al-Ahly, as the Red Team had excelled in all matches except for four confrontations that ended in a draw between them.
The last tie between the two teams dates back to September 2017 in the league when the confrontation ended with a goal for each team, after which Al-Ahly outperformed in three consecutive games that preceded today’s confrontation.
Al-Ahly’s list witnesses the return of defender Rami Rabiaa, who was absent from the last meeting against Pyramids to be suspended, while Hossam Ashour’s absence continues for technical reasons, and Ramadan Sobhi was injured.
Al-Ahly awaits strong matches after the army’s meeting, when it meets Al-Masry, then Zamalek in two matches in the Super Cup and the League, and then the African Champions League go-to match against the Sundowns at the end of this month.
