ATHENS, Ohio – The University of Akron women’s soccer team secured a 1-1 draw against Ohio on Sunday, marking their first road result against the Bobcats in over six years. The hard-fought contest at Chessa field demonstrates Akron’s growing competitiveness within the Mid-American Conference.
This result is significant for the Zips,who were seeking their first road win against Ohio since a 0-0 tie on October 4,2018. Ohio entered the match projected to finish third in the MAC Preseason Coaches poll, making the draw a valuable point for Akron as thay navigate the conference schedule. The tie positions both teams for continued success as the season progresses, with Akron looking to build momentum heading into their next contest.
The match remained scoreless through the first half,with Akron registering four shots. Ohio broke the deadlock in the 48th minute when Anna Burchett scored, assisted by Scout Murray.
Akron responded just before the hour mark, with freshman Addison Hall netting her third goal of the season at the 57:56 mark. The equalizer was set up by assists from junior Jordanne Oberhaus and fellow freshman Fineen cregan.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Ariana Vakos was crucial for the Zips, totaling six saves from 15 total shots by Ohio. Akron managed three shots on goal during the match. Senior Emma King and freshman Olivia Pilato each led the team with two shots apiece.
Akron will next travel to DeKalb, Ill.,for an 8 p.m. ET match against Northern Illinois on thursday, September 25.
