Ait Taleb: “The epidemiological situation is becoming worrying”

“The toll of contamination cases identified in the space of a week exceeds what has been recorded in four months in Morocco,” said the minister at a press conference the day after the travel ban decision from and to eight cities of the Kingdom.

“A worrying situation does not necessarily mean out of control”, he observed, while being alarmed by the “epidemic outbreak” of recent days, the main cause of the government decision to ban travel. and to certain cities.

The government official noted that since the announcement of the gradual reduction in the state of health emergency, the eight provinces and prefectures concerned by the travel ban (Tangier, Tetouan, Fez, Meknes, Casablanca, Berrechid, Settat and Marrakech), have seen a considerable increase in cases of Covid-19 contamination.

Addressing the decision announced by the Ministries of the Interior and of Health, Mr. Ait Taleb said he understood the “anger” shown by some citizens, saying, however, that the virus “does not give time”.

The Minister, in this context, welcomed the unfailing commitment of citizens during the confinement period and calls for an equally rigorous re-engagement to limit as much as possible the spread of the virus, affirming that the health security of the citizen remains “the priority “.

“Citizens must show responsibility and patriotism, in particular as the celebration of Aid Al Adha approaches, by respecting the barrier measures put in place by the ministry”, he said, stressing that they are called upon to limit contact with people at risk as much as possible.

In addition, Mr. Ait Taleb considered that a return to confinement is “a difficult decision to take”, given its negative repercussions on all sectors of activity, and that collective responsibility remains the only solution for an unscathed exit from this health crisis.
