Airports, returns with a red dot. You are positive after your vacation in Croatia

Gazebo inside Malpensa airport for health checks on tourists. And up to five thousand more possibilities to carry out swabs in the network of clinics in the area. They are the two pillars of the Region’s strategy for screening return travelers from Spain, Croatia, Malta and Greece. As required by the ordinance of the Ministry of Health of 12 August, those coming from the four countries considered at risk of coronavirus must undergo the swab in the 72 hours prior to return, on arrival or in the 48 hours following. The first days with the new rules were chaotic, with clogged call centers, bewildered citizens and local health facilities struggling with the sudden request for reorganization.

Now the plan to stem the re-entry infections takes shape (nine young people from Como had positive results yesterday, six of which returned from Croatia). As for Malpensa, in agreement with the Sea manager who will provide spaces and technical support, it is planned to set up three gazebos at Terminal 1, probably in the north area. They will be active from Thursday – explains the councilor for Sanit Giulio Gallera – thanks to the health workers of the Ats Insubria, the Asst Sette Laghi and Valle Olona, and the volunteers of the Civil Protection. The molecular swabs at the airport are especially designed for foreigners and for those arriving in Lombardy for work reasons: people who are difficult to intercept in any other way. Booking is also considered for screening at the airport, to avoid chaos. At the moment there are no tampons at Linate, however, due to lack of adequate space and the few flights arriving from countries at risk. And also for Orio al Serio checks are not being organized directly at arrivals.

So where will all the citizens swab on their return? The Region aims to strengthen the network of local clinics. The system will be able to support five thousand more tampons per day – says Gallera – compared to the average seven thousand achieved in this period. In short, the way promoted by Pirellone is that of the self-report to the relevant ATS, which must organize the tampon and communicate the appointment to the patient, also in the formula drive-through. To those who fear too long times, the commissioner reminds us that, pending the results, compliance with the main health and hygiene regulations is required, but no isolation is envisaged. Welfare Director General Marco Trivelli also appeals to the responsibility of the Lombards: Not just a question of airport access, where it is unthinkable to control everyone. We ask citizens to have a sense of responsibility and self-report, to protect public health.

It will take a few days to work at full capacity, also because in the meantime the analyzes on the population are continuing and those on the school staff are being organized, starting on Monday. Weeks of fire, in which it is possible that the tampon is not done in 48 hours, but in 72 says Trivelli. The citizens, once reported, according to the general manager are in good standing. The boom in returns expected from this weekend, meanwhile, the bookings of those who have already returned are accumulating. The Milan Ats alone counts 10,000 requests, compared to a thousand already processed (5,500 vacationers’ tampons already made throughout Lombardy). From today twenty people will answer the call center Milanese. Outpatient clinics will double firepower over the next few days, particularly at drive-through stations. Saints Paul and Charles will increase from 60 to 300 slots available per day. For the returns from Orio, the Bergamo hospitals have organized tensile structures outside the facilities, while the Ats of Pavia received 600 phone calls and performed 400 swabs in two days. On the hospital front, screening is starting to take place to curb the risk of re-entry internal outbreaks. At the Monzino cardiology center, health personnel who have returned from holidays from 10 August onwards will be subjected to a fast swab, serological test and will answer a medical history form.
