Airplane and Train Passengers Soared after Easing PPKM

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Amount passenger various modes of transportation in the country began to increase in line with the easing of the Implementation of Restrictions on Community Activities (PPKM) the last few weeks. The increase occurred in passengers from airplanes to trains.

In the airplane mode, one of the increases occurred at Soekarno Hatta International Airport, Banten, which is managed by PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) or AP II. It was noted that the increase reached 300 percent during the PPKM easing period in September 2021 compared to when PPKM began to be implemented last July.

“At the beginning of the Emergency PPKM, there were around 10 thousand to 15 thousand passengers per day at Soekarno Hatta Airport,” said VP of Corporate Communication of AP II Yado Yarismano to CNNIndonesia.com, Friday (1/10).

Meanwhile, after the PPKM has been relaxed, it has reached 40 thousand to 45 thousand passengers per day. Even so, the number of passengers has not yet reached normal conditions before PPKM was implemented.

It was recorded that the number of passengers at Soekarno Hatta Airport before PPKM could reach 50 thousand to 60 thousand passengers per day. This condition also occurs at other airports managed by AP II.

“So it’s still down traffic before the Emergency PPKM. The general picture (of other airports) is similar to CGK (Soekarno Hatta Airport),” he added.

Similarly, PT KAI (Persero) VP Public Relations Joni Martinus also stated that there had been an increase in the number of long-distance train passengers during the PPKM easing period. Initially, the average number of passengers was 10,343 passengers per day in July 2021 or when PPKM came into effect.

However, when PPKM was slowly relaxed the average number rose 10.76 percent to 11,456 passengers per day in August 2021. Meanwhile, in September 2021, the average number of long-distance train passengers had reached 17,599 passengers per day, an increase of 70.15 percent. from the early days of PPKM.

In fact, Joni noted that the number of long-distance train passengers had crossed 20 thousand per day at the end of last month. To be exact, it reached 21,228 passengers on September 24-30, 2021.

“On average, 21,228 long-distance train passengers per day with occupancy reaching 56 percent,” said Joni.

However, this number has not reached the average before PPKM, which reached 38,302 passengers per day in June 2021.
