airBaltic will resume flights between Riga and Stockholm – Industries – Financenet on Friday

Flights will be operated once a day on an Airbus A220-300 aircraft.

Martins Gauss, CEO of airBaltic, welcomed the Latvian government’s decision to ease pre-determined travel restrictions while maintaining public safety and health as its highest priority.

“This will allow us to operate several additional flights on routes that are essential to ensure the connectivity of Latvia and the Baltic States,” Gauss said.

As reported, flights to and from Latvian airports are allowed to all European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA) countries from Thursday, except Spain, Andorra, Malta and Luxembourg. According to Aivis Vincevs, a representative of the Civil Aviation Agency (CAA), the government-backed amendments to the Cabinet of Ministers (CM) regulations on epidemiological safety measures to limit the spread of Covid-19 infection, which stipulates that air travel to Latvia from the EU-14 average cumulative morbidity rate.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the airBaltic Group’s turnover in the first half of this year decreased by 63.6% to 78.713 million euros, while the group’s losses increased almost seven times and amounted to 184.77 million euros. In the first half of the year, airBaltic carried 810,317 passengers, which was 64% less than in the same period last year due to Covid-19. The number of flights decreased by 58% to 12,501.

It was also reported that airBaltic’s audited turnover last year was 503.281 million euros, which is 23.1% more than in 2018, but the company suffered a loss of 7.729 million euros compared to the profit a year earlier.

The Latvian state owns 96.14% of the voting rights in the capital of airBaltic, but the financial investor, Danish businessman Lars Tusen, owns Aircraft Leasing 1 – 3.86%.
