The Minister of Health, Fernando Ruiz, announced this Monday that on September 1 the possible reopening of an air route between Bogotá and Barranquilla or Cartagena is being prepared.
The official, who reported that they have received 17 requests to reopen airports throughout the country in the health portfolio, said that according to what was discussed with the mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, the city that would communicate on the new route with the capital would be “a city with a low curve like Barranquilla or Cartagena.”
During the official pandemic attention space, the minister indicated that the positivity in the country, that is, the tests that come out positive for coronavirus, is 24.15% and the lethality, that is, the people who die among those infected , is 3.31%.
“We have 6,547 occupied ICU beds in Colombia and 2,685 beds available. That is, an ICU bed availability of 29%,” Ruiz said.
He also made a tour in this type of figures by cities: in Bogotá there is a positivity of 25.74%, a fatality of 2.75% and the availability of ICU beds is 12%; in Medellín there is a positivity of 21.08%, a fatality of 1.62% and the availability of ICU beds is 9%; in Bucaramanga there is a positivity of 13.35%, a fatality rate of 4.23% and the availability of ICU beds is 21%; and in Sincelejo there is a positivity rate of 32.72%, a fatality of 5.64% and the availability of ICU beds is 40%.
For his part, President Iván Duque compared the numbers in Colombia with other countries in America and Europe: “Colombia has a number of 7,623 infected people per million inhabitants, one of the lowest in the continent. And compared to Europe, in Colombia we have a figure of 253 dead people per million inhabitants, a low number compared to European countries “.
Finally, the president warned: “We find studies that say that many Colombians believe that COVID will never knock on their door, but it is a disease that has hit the world. (…) And inside the home it is thought that our loved ones are not going to infect us, but the home is one of the places where contagions can occur the most “.
