Agreement on border security to be signed by Shamkhani in Baghdad

Iranian and Iraqi sources said that Ali Shamkhani, Secretary General of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, will hold talks with senior officials in Baghdad today, before signing a security memorandum of understanding on the border between the two countries.

In turn, the official IRNA agency stated that Shamkhani’s visit aims to “preserve and develop trade relations to more than $10 billion with Iraq,” noting that this requires “lifting some security challenges imposed on the relations of the two countries, in order to expedite the implementation of economic agreements.” and facilitating banking cooperation.
