Agreement on assistance from municipalities to parents in benefits affair | Politics

The Tax and Customs Administration compensates parents who are disadvantaged, but that is not always enough. They have accumulated debt, lost their home or job and sometimes fell ill. Van Huffelen wanted to work with the municipalities to see how these people can best be helped.

Municipalities are closer to their residents and can offer broad assistance. Exactly how that will take shape will be worked out in the coming week, reports Finance. It is not clear how much money is involved and who will pay for it. The VNG previously announced that the ministry would have to pay the extra costs.

Peter Heijkoop of the VNG and Van Huffelen are happy with the agreements. “This is an important outcome for the thousands of parents who have been duped in the childcare allowance issue.”

In recent years, thousands of parents have been the victims of a hunt for childcare allowance fraud that got out of hand. They wrongly had to repay enormous sums. As a result, many got into serious trouble. Van Huffelen wants to compensate the victims of this affair, but that takes longer than expected.
