Agreement approved: 286 residents of the Constellations will share $ 4 million

The amicable settlement between the plaintiffs and the City of Lévis was approved on Tuesday by the Superior Court. This decision thus puts an end to almost 10 years of judicial saga.

Eleven categories of residents will receive different amounts of compensation, depending on their particular situation and the work carried out on their property.

The representative of the group of residents of the Constellations sector, Jean-François Labbé, emphasizes that the citizens preferred to play with caution to ensure that they obtain compensation.

We would have liked to have had a lot more, that’s for sure. But we liked to play it safe and go with a good understanding rather than a judgment that could have been flipped. To have more or to have nothing either, explains Mr. Labbé.

Legal technicalities mean that we have been cautious. And we are very satisfied with the envelope we obtained by negotiating with the City.

Mr. Labbé believes that the agreement will allow the owners to take another step now.

We are happy, we will be able to turn the page and finally say that we have had justice, repairs, and we now know that the Constellations district has won its letters of nobility, says Mr. Labbé.

The City of Lévis satisfied

The City of Lévis will contribute $ 1.2 million out of the total amount of $ 4,140,700. The City, which claims to have been proactive in moving the matter forward, is satisfied with the judgment.

After public consultation with the hard-hit residents, we created a program specifically for the Constellations district without regard to the legal proceedings that were going on at that time. The out-of-court agreement will now allow residents of the neighborhood to find some peace of mind, underlines the mayor of Lévis, Gilles Lehouillier.

The out-of-court settlement was signed in December 2018, while the class action was authorized in 2010.
