Agen: Florida’s last concert of the season will be African-American

This Friday, June 3, the last concert of the 2012-2022 season at Florida will be afrobeat. The New Yorkers of Antibalas stop in Agen. The evening promises to be wild. Ten years after their first visit, they have made the slogan “Music is weapon” (“music is a weapon”) their profession of faith. By the way, “antibalas” means “bulletproof” in Spanish…

Their weapons, they made them in Brooklyn. Guardians of the Afrobeat heritage, the twelve musicians (occasionally accompanied by a few guests) do their own cooking by adding ingredients from punk, free jazz, funky rhythms and hip-hop. There is something for every taste. These are music from all over the world that Antibalas highlights. On a background of brass and percussion, they deliver explosive pieces. Cosmopolitan, their languages are English, Yoruba (one of Nigeria’s three national languages) and Spanish.

Two years after “Where the Gods are in peace”, the band does it again with “Fu Chronicles”, a compendium of Afrobeat, in the form of a tribute to kung fu (and martial arts in general). An album all the more anticipated since it was released in 2020 and its tour had been slowed down by the pandemic. We couldn’t have imagined a better way to end the season before the summer closure. A groove and a rhythm not to be missed! To be seen at Florida at 9 p.m.
