Montpellier Handball – Istres: Agathoise gala evening!

We were really spoiled this Thursday evening August 4 at the Palais des Sports in Agde.
A month before the opening of the championship, a preparation match opposed Agde Montpellier and Istriens. For the more than modest price of £5, nearly a thousand enthusiastic spectators were present. With among them a large and noisy delegation of official supporters of the Languedocians (The Blue Fox) who drew the public into a pleasant atmosphere of madness despite the ambient warmth.
And they will leave delighted with the performance of their favorites, masters of the game from the start of the game: 3-0, 10-2 before a small jump from the Provençals who will come back to 16-14 at the start of the second period. Not for long since our regionals will finally win 31-21.
The score seems perfectly logical given the ranking of last season, Montpellier 4°, Istres 14°. It must be said that Montpellier Handball remains (despite the current hegemony of PSG) the most successful club in France, 14 French champion titles, 2 European Champions Leagues in 2003 and 2018. And, with in its ranks recent Tokyo 2021 Olympic gold medalists Valentin Porte and Hugo Descat, Argentinians Diego Simonet and Moscariello, brilliant Slovenian rookie Stas Skube, Croatian giant Nacinovic, goalkeepers Bonnefoi, Desbonnet and a few others, the club can nurture some serious ambitions.
He will share our encouragement and our congratulations with his “little” neighbor from Agde who, for his fiftieth birthday, has just offered himself the climb to National 3. Bravo and thank you to all!
