In the extensive Valkenburg sex crime case from 2015, the vast majority of customers got away with a prison sentence of one day and a community service order. “It has turned out that this has no preventive effect,” said the public prosecutor. “Too many men then consciously had sex with a minor for payment and took the risk of a short prison sentence.”

In the Valkenburg case, the victim was forced into prostitution by loverboys, in the case of the girl from Brabant who was frequently paid for sex in 2019, this happened voluntarily. However, because of the girl’s young age and troubled youth, it was up to the adult men who contacted her to make sure that the woman was of age, according to the prosecutor. A few did ask her age, but were satisfied with her answer that she was 21 years old.

The police discovered illegal sex in 2019 through an advertisement by the girl on sexjobs.nl. The police caught her in a hotel in Eindhoven by making a fake appointment. Police found information on the suspects on her phone.

Last week and Monday 19 men were in court. Three of them took the girl to her sex dates. They were sentenced to prison terms of ten to twenty months and community service. Fifteen customers who paid for that sex heard sentences from one week to three months unconditionally. One suspect had only made child pornographic recordings of the girl and was asked to do 80 hours of community service.

Two customers will appear in court at a later date. It will rule on 23 December in the cases already handled.
