Again Clashes with Azerbaijan, Armenia Lost 2 Combat Positions

YEREVAN – A number of soldiers Armenia killed and captured in the fighting that raged on the border with Azerbaijan . Armenia said some of its soldiers were killed and two combat positions were missing, while Azerbaijan said two of its soldiers were injured.

However the fighting did not continue as both sides reportedly agreed to a brokered truce Russia . Last year, more than 6,000 lives were lost in the war over the disputed territory Nagorno-Karabakh .

Azerbaijani troops, backed by Turkey, managed to recapture most of the territory that is internationally considered part of Azerbaijan.

In the latest clashes on Tuesday (16/11/2021), Armenia asked Russia, to help defend its territorial sovereignty over Azerbaijan. Russia is Armenia’s main security ally with long ties to the former Soviet republic.

Both the Armenian and Russian defense ministries later said that a Russian-backed ceasefire had been agreed, while Azerbaijan had not publicly commented on the issue. BBC, Wednesday (17/11/2021).

Earlier, Armenia blamed Azerbaijani troops for the latest outbreak of fighting and said 12 soldiers had been captured. However, Armenia did not immediately confirm details of the victims. But the head of parliament’s foreign relations committee, Eduard Aghajanyan, said as many as 15 soldiers were likely killed.

For its part, the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan accused Armenia of carrying out massive provocations against Azerbaijan in the Kalbajar and Lachin regions of the country’s borders.

It is said that Armenia launched a surprise military operation to take a more advantageous position but the attack failed.
