After the tragic fire, no one from the Bohumín block of flats has to pay rent

According to the town hall, the city already has a detailed description of the extent of damage to individual flats from the insurance company; the exact quantification of the damage will be known by the end of the week.

“Today, the city council approved the waiver of the rent for August in the total amount of 227 thousand crowns for all housing units, regardless of whether they were damaged or not. The tenants experienced trauma, they had to be evacuated, their electricity and gas did not work, “said Bohumín Deputy Mayor Igor Bruzl (ČSSD).

Today, the insurance company provided the city with a detailed description of the extent of damage to individual apartments. The town hall should know the financial quantification of the damage by Friday. “The priority is to restore the damaged flats as soon as possible so that people can return to their homes as soon as possible. The work continues continuously, “added Bruzl.

Today, councilors assigned a replacement apartment to four tenants from the burnt-out tower. In two cases the assignment is temporary, in the other two it is permanent. For the other eight households, the extraordinary allocation of a replacement flat will be on the agenda at the moment when more extensive remediation or reconstruction work begins in their flat. “Bohumín has 4,300 apartments owned by the city. It reaffirms how crucial it was years ago the decision not to privatize the housing stock. Today, thanks to this, we have immediately available alternative housing available for our tenants, “said the mayor Petr Vícha (ČSSD).

During this week, Adra volunteers will offer psychological help to residents of neighboring houses, specifically in Mírová Street. The Silesian Diaconate, in turn, will provide other disinfectants with the inhabitants of the house affected by the fire. Bohumín’s volunteer firefighters continue to help the tenants who have to leave their homes until their apartments are repaired.

A deliberately started fire with tragic consequences occurred on the 11th floor of an apartment building on Saturday, August 8, before 6 pm. The fire completely destroyed the apartment in which it was burning. The corridor on the first floor is also damaged, and the flats on the floors below it are particularly damaged by the fire water. One of the elevators remains out of order. There are 60 flats in the panel house, in which 126 tenants live. About a third of the flats were not affected by the fire or its liquidation, others have more or less damage. At least four apartments will require a comprehensive renovation.

According to the police, the apartment was intentionally set on fire on August 8 by a 54-year-old man. He resolved family disputes. Police charged him with murder and general threat. The fire caused damage to several million crowns. Six people died in the apartment, five were killed when they jumped out the window. Another four people managed to escape from the fire. The man accused of the arson attack confessed. His son and grandson and grandson’s mother lived in the apartment.
