After the Ebola outbreak in Uganda, Tanzania is preparing

Published on : 09/25/2022 – 04:21

Faced with the new Ebola outbreak in Uganda, neighboring countries are preparing for a possible spread. In Tanzania, on Friday 23 September, the authorities announced that they were stepping up control of their borders. They also launched awareness campaigns in schools. Objective: to stop the spread of this hemorrhagic fever that has already killed 11 people.

The alert was strengthened in the regions located on both sides, between Tanzania andUganda, including Dar es Salaam, the capital of Tanzania, Mwanza and Kagera, north of Kampala. In these regions, blending is important. Education to the populations is therefore to remain vigilant.

If they encounter a person with Ebola symptoms, they should notify a health center. As this is a viral disease, the symptoms may be fever, vomiting, but the most visible sign is bleeding in the orifices. We have activated the intervention teams to identify the areas at risk, they must go there and explain to the communities what they must do in case of infection “, Explains Aifello Sichalwe, head of the medical service within the Tanzanian Ministry of Health.

Medical teams of 12 are currently operating in all 26 regions of Tanzania. To limit any spread of Ebola, the Tanzanian authorities have also set up five isolation centers to treat patients with early symptoms and are working to strengthen checks on travelers at airports and ports. No cases of the ‘Sudanese’ strain of Ebola have yet been detected.

An extraordinary meeting will be held this Monday, September 26, which will bring together all regional doctors, where the response strategy should be on the agenda.
