After Telkom, Lippo Group Now Wants to Create a Crypto Exchange

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia The Lippo Group technology issuer, PT Multipolar Tbk (MLPL), through its subsidiary, plans to form a joint venture with Luno to develop a crypto exchange in the country.

The entry of the Lippo Group adds to the number of corporations that have ventured into the cryptocurrency business after previously the Telkom Group through MDI Ventures collaborated with Binance.

MLPL’s Corporate Secretary, Natalie Lie, also confirmed the company’s plan to develop the business.

“The company views that the market for the cryptocurrency wallets and excngahe business in Indonesia is still quite wide and the company formed this joint venture with Luno who already has extensive experience in the cryptocurrency field,” Natalie said, in her explanation to the Indonesia Stock Exchange, quoted Thursday (23rd). /12/2021).

Natalie added that there has been no significant impact on the company’s finances regarding the formation of a joint venture with Luno.

“Hopefully, this JV company will make a significant contribution in the future,” he said.

Previously, Binance, the largest cryptocurrency exchange institution in terms of transactions, formed a joint venture with a consortium led by MDI Ventures, a venture capital owned by PT Telkom Indonesia Tbk (TLKM). This new company will develop a crypto exchange in Indonesia.

In this partnership, Binance will provide world-class asset management infrastructure and technology to support the development of a new crypto exchange platform. This consortium will have access to more than 170 million consumers in Indonesia.

Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao said binande’s ambition is to grow the blockchain and cryptocurrency ecosystem globally. Where, this initiative in Indonesia is a significant step in that direction.
