Active, charitable, helpful, creative and cheerful, these are qualities that are manifested in Graciela Maidana (55). The breast cancer she suffered did not turn her off, but rather motivated her to cling to life, she found in the art of making crafts the strength she needed and also actively participate in the Cristo Redentor parish of Jardín América. He emphasizes that in his family he also found the strength he required to continue forward.

Graciela has been a professor of biology for 31 years and in 2016 she was diagnosed with breast cancer, so she had to take leave and fight against this cancerous tumor. Always accompanied by her husband, Mario Rodríguez, and her children Ana, Adrián and Agustín, she expressed that first she felt fear although later she decided to stay positive, she fought and won the battle.

“In February 2016 I take a turn for a routine check-up, first they do a mammogram, then a breast ultrasound, that’s when I realized that something was happening because the doctor was looking for what was there in the right breast,” he recalled.

She reflected that at first they did not give her details, but instead referred her to a hematologist, because of a nodule. That is how Graciela went to the other medical consultations and when she saw the results of the different studies that were carried out, she knew that it was a carcinogenic tumor, although fortunately it was small and was detected in time. “At first I was afraid, but I said to myself, how could it be if I believe in God?” She asked for prayer and always in the company of her husband managed to carry out the treatment.

Since then, she has discovered another facet in addition to the love she had for teaching at school: crocheting. “I started doing it in my free time as I was on leave, while I was watching television for example,” said the teacher. And he added: “My first surgery was on April 25, then the chemo came and I continued the X-rays, among all these steps that I had to do I took the time to weave,” he said.

Graciela said that from that year on, she not only found in her crafts the possibility of relaxing, but it also helped her to think more about her family. “First as everything is new, it’s like a surprise but both Mario and my children always supported me, I never thought that I could have cancer but things happen because for me it was discovering a whole world and the accompaniment of the family It is important to cope with the moment ”, he assured.

In addition, all the crafts he makes are given away. “I like to give something made by me for a birthday or special date, I feel it has even greater value.” She is characterized by thinking of others and entertaining a loved one with presents made by her.

His charity and affection for others not only goes to teaching and practicing his profession with young people, but he also became involved with the little ones.

In the Cristo Redentor parish, he joined the group of mothers who carried out different activities with the children. “First I arrived as an auxiliary and then I had to grab the entourage and lead the group in that same 2016.

Last year due to the pandemic we could not meet with the children but we were always looking for an alternative so that they could do some activity ”.

After a talk with one of the priests of the community, they decided to organize a parade and made a video where 13 girls represented, each one, a Marian invocation in October of last year.

As a result, for November 1, All Saints’ Day, 24 children also took advantage of the date and dressed in the costumes of different popular saints.

That is why Graciela is loved by so many children and their respective families, because her sweetness, patience and affection monopolize the attention of the boys and make them increasingly join in with a new proposal.
