After Saturday’s riots on the beach in Blankenberge, police union VSOA is making a new call for zero tolerance for violence against police and aid workers. This time the call is addressed to preformateurs Bart De Wever and Paul Magnette. That zero tolerance must be included in the coalition agreement, they say. In the meantime, Flemish Belanger asks Ortwin Depoortere to exceptionally convene the Parliamentary Committee on the Interior, which he chairs.

In its communications, the police union consistently puts the word youth in quotation marks. “The good citizen has been harassed for quite some time, the corona rules were ignored and these ‘young people’ also tried to conquer the beach (and other recreational areas) – such as in the problem areas of certain cities, ‘it sounds. The union wants “these ‘young people'” to finally be named by “politicians”.
The union says it is still waiting for the concrete elaboration of the commitment, in the 2014 federal coalition agreement, not to accept violence against security professions and to take further steps in the fight against violence against the police. In addition, the judiciary must also get started. It recently turned out that a third of the PVs for violence against the police are dropped, and that half are actually prosecuted.
The measure, meanwhile, by the coastal towns of Knokke and Blankenberge to temporarily ban day-trippers, is “unacceptable discrimination against everyone” for Vlaams Belang. Vlaams Belanger Depoortere asks Chamber chairman Patrick Dewael to convene the Parliamentary Committee on the Interior, which is chaired by Depoortere. Depoortere already proposes to filter out rioters with identity checks upon arrival at the coast.
