PSG boss Leonardo recently fueled the rumors of an interest in Lionel Messi. Now Barca coach Koeman reacted in his own way.
FC Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman has responded to the statements of PSG sports director Leonardo, who recently openly communicated an interest in Lionel Messi.
“If you asked me if I was interested in Neymar or Mbappe, I would also say ‘yes’,” Koeman said at a press conference on Wednesday.
Leonardo: “Players like Messi will always be on PSG’s list”
Leonardo had sparked rumors at the beginning of the week about a possible change of the six-time world footballer at the end of the season. “Big players like Messi will always be on PSG’s list,” the 51-year-old told France Football. The French series champion is “at the big table of the clubs that are closely following the matter. Strictly speaking, no, we’re not seated yet, but our chair is reserved just in case.”
Messi’s contract with Blaugrana expires in the summer, so the Argentine is available for a free transfer. Since January this year he has been able to negotiate a transfer with other clubs. It is currently unlikely that the now 33-year-old will also appear for his long-term employer in the coming season.
Koeman currently has to do without Messi. Barca’s number ten received a red card in the final of the Spanish Supercopa and was banned from the association for two competitive games.
