The majority of pregnant women are keen, during their follow-up with their own doctor, to perform an ultrasound, because of different beliefs they have between the necessity of reassurance of the fetus and its complete condition, or the tendency of motherhood and fatherhood that makes the parents have a passion to enjoy watching a part of them while inside the womb, so you rarely find a woman who has not These rays are done during pregnancy.

There is a great debate about this type of radiation and its effect on the health of the fetus, which prompted Germany recently to ban the use of ultrasound waves of three dimensions for pregnant women, as of next year, unless there is a medical need, in order to limit their use and to protect the child from any potential effects. At the stage of bone formation, the bone absorbs a large sound energy, which may carry with it effects on its health in the future.

Varying pricing

According to some women who contacted Masrawy, the price of an ultrasound for the fetus ranges between 250 and 800 pounds, pointing out that this price difference is due to the place where it is performed, whether it is in private laboratories or government hospital laboratories, and also according to the pricing of the doctor you follow up with And there is an examination device in his clinic, although some women are keen to conduct it.

“Masrawy” communicated with some models who were keen on conducting an ultrasound of the fetus, as well as some doctors specializing in gynecology and obstetrics to clarify the extent of its danger to the fetus.

Hiba’s unconsciousness almost hurt her unborn baby

Heba Muhammad, a housewife, due to her lack of awareness and awareness of the dangers of this type of radiation, nearly harm her fetus while she was pregnant in the third month, after she repeated the 4D scan without consulting her doctor for the second time one week after her procedure.

She explained to “Masrawy” that the doctor with whom she followed up her case asked her to undergo an x-ray in the sixth month of pregnancy to check on the completion of the fetus’s lung, and when she performed it, she showed that the lung was not complete, which caused a state of terror in her fetus.

Because of the doctor’s refusal to perform the x-rays again, in order not to harm the fetus, according to what she said, she went from herself to a radiology center to perform the x-rays again one week after the first, and she concealed her taking this step from her doctor who warned her about that, to find that the new rays showed The lung is complete, and at that time she told the doctor, he reprimanded her because it might cause harm to the fetus.

And she indicated that the doctor, after he violated her and rebuked her, made it clear to her that it is not permissible to perform these x-rays at close intervals, as it may cause harm to the fetus, such as a physical deformity, to warn her against a recurrence, to assure her that the doctor is the one who sets the date only when needed.

The passion for seeing a fetus prompts Rehab to request it from the doctor

Because of her eagerness to see her fetus with her first pregnancy, Rehab Jumah, a housewife, who is in her fifth month of pregnancy, asked the doctor who was watching her to perform an ultrasound, so that she could know the type of the fetus and see its complete shape, saying with joy: “When the doctor agreed, I was happy that I would see my daughter playing his face my belly”.

Rehab added to “Masrawy”, that when regular ultrasound cannot reach the shape of the fetus, doctors resort to ultrasound, especially to find out the type and weight of the fetus, and when suspicion that it has something unusual.

Doctor: It is not dangerous .. it must be rationalized

Dr. Maher Shams, Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mansoura University, confirms that ultrasound of all kinds “2D-3D-4D” has no risk to the fetus as long as it is without abuse, pointing out that most studies and research have proven this.

Shams added to “Masrawy” that the follow-up of pregnant women is in a manner determined by the attending physician. According to each case, he determines whether she needs these x-rays or not, indicating that some women have a dangerous type of pregnancy, so their follow-up period is close, and these x-rays are performed for them with each Follow up but very carefully.

As for the existence of a certain period during which these x-rays are allowed for pregnant women, he explains that they are performed twice, the first at the beginning of pregnancy and the second in the twentieth week, indicating that the monthly follow-up replaces this method, and noting: “There is no need to work every year with close times, especially since it does not give information a lot “.

He stressed that conducting these x-rays is very necessary, especially when they are conducted in the twentieth week of pregnancy, to make sure that there are abnormalities or not, pointing out that the idea is only to rationalize their use.

Essential in early pregnancy

Dr. Afaf Helmy, a consultant obstetrician and gynecologist, says that there is a demand among women to undergo ultrasound, and that some of them ask for it with every visit to the doctor, stressing that it is essential, especially in the first three months of pregnancy, to check on the heartbeat of the fetus.

The obstetrics and gynecology consultant added to “Masrawy” that these x-rays are also important for determining the age of the fetus and thus determining the date of birth, noting that they did not represent any danger to the fetus as long as the doctor uses the lowest level of sound frequencies, through which he can determine the required information.

Regarding the existence of a specific number that is allowed to perform these x-rays, she noted that conducting them every time a pregnant woman visits the doctor is not necessary, noting that the majority of pregnant women do not need more than two examinations, except in certain cases only, which is, for example, suspicion that Ectopic pregnancy, increased or decreased amount of fluid surrounding the fetus, or unexplained bleeding.
