After extra time, the Knicks dominate the Pelicans for a 6th straight win

2-2 after 2min30… In terms of observation rounds, this Knicks – Pelicans is a model of its kind. It does not run, it sends bricks, and the All-Stars of the two formations have not yet digested their lunch. Only Steven Adams is awake, on the rebound as in attack, and the Pelicans take the lead (8-4). But it remains very poor and the stray bullets follow one another, just like the bricks like this cinder block sent by James Johnson.

The Pink Sparkle

You have to wait for the arrival of Derrick Rose to regain some enthusiasm, and it also wakes up Jaxson Hayes who goes to alley-oop. After twelve minutes, the Pelicans are in front (25-21) but the game has not really started, the defense of the Knicks forces New Orleans to play half-court, and this is what allows them not to be off the hook. But we must remain attentive, and Kevin Knox, head in the air, forgets Zion Williamson behind his back, and it is the alley-oop assured (31-26). Sometimes a basket is enough to trigger a click, and it will be a 3-point in the axis of Rose at the limit of 24 seconds. The former MVP throws a 10-0, and it must be said that Lonzo Ball opens the way to the basket, and Rose does not need that to go to the circle (36-31).

Then, it’s Randle’s turn to stand out. Mute in the first quarter, the best player of the Knicks delivers a big duel to Zion Williamson and he takes the upper hand. He planted 16 points altogether in the quarter-time and his game at half-distance is a treat. Opposite, Williamson explodes the circle, but he also loses a stupid ball at the very end of half-time, and RJ Barrett goes to give 13 points in advance at the break (57-44). Once again, New York’s defense is remarkable, and the Pelicans’ 1/12 3-pointers hurt.

Le Bledsoe Show

When you get back from the locker room, it’s time for the Bledsoe show. Hard in defense on Elfrid Payton, the leader of the Pelicans let go in attack. He signs 10 of the 13 points of the Pelicans in 90 seconds, and the Knicks are only two points ahead (59-57)! The aggressiveness has changed sides, as evidenced by this interception of Ball in the hands of Randle a little too relaxed. The Knicks lack spirit, and the Pelicans get their hands on the game, first with a good job from Brandon Ingram after a screen from Adams, then especially on this 3-point Ball on a ball released by the same Adams (69-69).

Then place the crossover with two confident players: Bledsoe on one side and Bullock on the other. No team manages to chain two good attacks, and the game becomes choppy again. A flash from Williamson sent to the alley-oop by Bledsoe illuminates the end of the quarter, and the teams are back to back (79-79).

Zion Williamson rushes

Except that behind, he forces, loses two balls, and Randle punishes him to restore the advantage to New York on two dunks (88-84). The Knicks are on a 9-0 simply taking advantage of the New Orleans rush. Williamson catches up behind the time-out, and Ingram strikes halfway. Thibodeau recalls his players for a time-out (88-88), and behind place to hurray basketball with shots in first intention, an air ball for Bullock and 3-point bricks from Ingram and Williamson.

We are entering the “money time”, and it will be without Barrett who makes his 6th mistake on his friend Williamson. His throws give a five-point lead (97-92), but the Pelicans are playing backwards, and a bad pass from Bledsoe and an oversight on the defensive rebound allows Rose and then Noel to bring the Knicks back to -1 (101- 100).

Reggie Bullock the Savior

There are 40 seconds to play, and New Orleans loses another ball! Except that Quickley misses his floater, and Williamson saves the rebound. At 8 seconds from the end, Bledsoe puts his throws (103-100). Time-out Knicks for the equalizer ball and Rose goes to the circle, but it is to better stand out on Bullock. Ball was trapped and Bullock sanctions in the corner (103-103). There are two seconds left to play, and Bledsoe tunes the buzzer. Extension.

Clearly, the Pelicans have taken a hit to the head, and their offense becomes even more static and thoughtless as New York leaves Williamson in isolation. Conversely, the Knicks are looking for the extra pass, and they escape thanks to the X factor of the evening, Bullock (110-105). Another precious player tonight, Nerlens Noel who taps a two-handed dunk from Ingram at very high altitude! Finally, the coup de grace is brought by Randle on a 3-point at the limit of 24 seconds (117-109). There are 54 seconds to go, and New Orleans will not recover, finally beaten 122-112 after an endless last minute. The Knicks didn’t necessarily deserve to win, but New Orleans’ game is too poor to collectively hope to make a difference.
